PostSubject: at the cottage   Mon Sep 05, 2011 7:59 am

I was at the cottage this week-end and noticed something floating in the weeds over in the bay. Went over in the canoe and seen it was a nice 8 point buck. I have no idea as to what killed it. It has been there for a few days at least as it was qiute bloated. Really starting to stink too. I don't hunt there too much, but hate to lose the deer.

I saw a doe lying dead in a driveway by the road near the Cemetary in Cwood on Monday. Pissed me off, it had been poached but I didn't see anyone around or I'd have stopped.

A shame it died, are you taking the rack? if you have not yet done so, a bit of vicks vapo under the nose helps a lot.

Final, I really wanted that rack as it was still all velvet, but, it really stunk when I moved it. Kinda grossed me out and it was covered in flies. It looks kinda red under the skin all down the neck, but not sure why? I don't know, maybe it was hit by a car. I know after they are shot, they will head to water.

Yes I know the smell very well, I have taken the rack off road kills for a few friends, retching the whole time, even with the vicks its a rough go.

The ice went out this week. I've been waiting for that , so I jumped in the canoe and paddled over to where I seen the deer last year. Sure enough, there it was laying on the bottom. I'm going to wait for a nicer day and try and get the head off it. I'm hoping the fish and turtles have cleaned it up for me.

Hey Final, I thought the head was gone too, thats what happens when you listen to someone else. I went for a paddle last year and seen it was still intact, it had just moved a bit from the waves coming in.

Nice, the smell should be a little less intense, post some pics when you get it out.
