Transition Zones

In the current issue of Outdoor Canada magazine there is a very good article by Mark Raycroft on transition zones. He covers six top transition zones for finding big bucks.

FYI, for those new to deer hunting: Transition Zone : areas traveled by deer that are between wooded areas and open feeding areas, swamps, brushy areas and semi-open woods.

Travel Corridor are areas where one or more deer trails lead to and from core areas and food souces. They occur in wooded fingers, strips of woods, wooded stream beds and river bottoms, benches on hillsides in wooded areas, brushy areas between wooded areas/food sources, and other areas that restrict deer movement because of terrain or vegetation.

The six areas in his write up are :

1. Where orchard meets forest - my favorite, I have a tree stand in place.

2. Where crop meets forest

3. Where beaver flood meets hardwood - I have a tree stand in place, will save this spot for the rut.

4. Where evergreens meet hardwoods

5. Where hydro cut meets forest

6. Where wetland meets cedar

Good advise to hunt these areas.
