Driving out of Wasaga Beach this evening at 4:00pm, I counted 15-20 deer in a field feeding. In past years I wouldn't see that amount of deer together in those fields until February.

Cool experience for him. The ice storm left an ice crust making it almost impossible for the deer to get around. I was out Christmas Eve and did not see any deer tracks. About four inches of fresh snow on top of the ice and with snow shoes on, I busted through the ice with each step. Now with more snow today there will be over a foot on top of that ice now. That's what has gotten the deer grouped together an in the cedars and hemlocks.

It's definitely tough for them this winter. It will be interesting to see what kind of mortality rate the deer population throughout Ontario will have.
