| Finally got out hunting on the opening day of the Manitoulin hunting season. It was the first time I have hunted there and the properties I was hunting has lots of quad trails running through them. On opening morning, well before light, I got twisted around and ended up on the wrong trail. By the time I figured that out it was getting close to shooting time so I headed to another stand. It is just off the highway about half a mile away. I got in just at first light and got settled in. After two hours a big doe came into the clearing but she winded me and bounded off. Twenty minutes later I see a deer come out of the same spot. I put the scope on it and it was a buck but he is looking right at me. With no time to waste I lowered my sights and fired. Not the greatest shot I have made but it got the job done. I did have a couple hundred yard tracking job through some dirty swamp area but with the snow it wasn't difficult. He ended up being a 6 pointer ( I actually thought he was larger) but I didn't have time to take a good look at him before shooting. He should taste good though. | Thanks. As I mentioned, he is a big deer but I was all out of venison so I am happy with him. | |

| Yes the weather wasn't the best. We had about a foot and a half of snow and winds of 40 - 60 km/hr. Temperatures weren't to bad but the wind chill made it cold unless you could get out of the wind. Not tree stand weather. My buddy was up in an enclosed box blind with a heater in it, so he kept warm. The blind I was in was a three sided lean to and the wind really didn't bother me too much. | |
