I PROBABLY COULD HAVE POSTED THIS 3-4 MONTHS AGO. A LARGE PORTION THE LOCAL POPULATION OF RACCOONS ARE AFFECTED BY DISTEMPER. THE BEST WAY TO DESCRIBE THE BEHAVIOUR IS THAT THEY BEHAVE LIKE A DRUNKEN TEENAGE BOY. WE'RE TOLD THAT HUMANS CANNOT CONTRACT THE DISEASE BUT IT WILL AFFECT PETS & HUNTING/WORKING DOGS.
WE RECEIVE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS DAILY ABOUT ANIMALS AFFLICTED WITH THE DISEASE. THERE DOESN'T APPREAR TO BE AN END IN SIGHT BECAUSE WE ARE RESPONDING TO AS MANY COMPLAINTS DAILY NOW AS WE WERE IN MARCH. THE DISEASE IS FATAL SO THE ONLY HUMANE WAY TO DEAL WITH IT IS TO DISPATCH THE ANIMAL. MY POST IS TO LET ANYONE IN THE OWEN SOUND TO COLLINGWOOD AREA KNOW ABOUT THE PROBLEM SO THEY CAN TAKE PRECAUTIONS TO PROTECT THEMSELVES AND THEIR PETS
