2013 Turkey Season Success Empty

I shot my turkey on opening morning. got in late, 6am. the turkeys were already gobbling on the roost so I quietly slipped into position overlooking a small field near where they were roosted. by the time I got there the birds were on the ground and moving. I plunked my arse on the ground near a tree and made a couple calls. the birds responded & quickly. within a couple of min the birds entered the field 100 yds from me. a bird came to me like he was on a string, hung up at 40 yards and I had to adjust my position to get a shot, he must have seen my movement and flocked off to the hens. 2 other toms hung up strutting 80 yards from my position. a couple of hens came and let the fellas away for... well you know. I had another bird appear, a jake. I estimated him at 45 yards and set the crosshairs on his neck and pulled the trigger. well it was a 55yd shot with a 2 3/4" gun with #4 that I wouldn't have normally taken, but I had misjudged the distance and got lucky. the bird went down at the report of the gun.

I got out a couple of times but no turkeys seen. Congrats again on your bird.
