| Getting after that late season mature buck. Keys to killing him :
- fine the does - hit the food sources - get in the thick stuff, - travel corridors set ups - mind your scent, play the wind - hunt all day - hunt the swamp areas
- any other tips guys ?

| I also lay off the calls, I figure that the bucks have likely already heard it all by now. I have seen on shows for late season deer were the host used A call and the giant turned tail and ran. I have also been told by a few guys that the call they used spooked the buck they were trying for. If you are still hunting [walking slowly looking for Deer] check out area's that you would not think a buck would be. Say a small area of brush about 50x 100 ft in the middle of an open area or simular, most hunters ignore these spots and a big buck can become aware of this and use it for cover. | |

| Thanks guys, but it was not to be. I managed to get out after work for the last couple hours of legal. Nothing came through, lots of tracks in the snow even. At night fall the coyotes did their usual howl . Time to get after them now. Lets hope the easy winter continues for the deer and turkeys so there is more of them next season.
Actually I almost had my deer on the way home from work on Dec 23. A deer crossing HYW 26, using coming traffic as a screen, shot across my lane, I missed it by a split second. | |

| Too bad you did not take one hunting, good thing you didn't hit the deer, you would get tired of burger after awhile. | |

| To bad you didn't get your deer and good thing you missed the deer with your vehicle. They do a lot of damage. | |

| I haven't shot a deer in 2 years now. I guess I'll have to stop being so picky lol | |

| Well, I learned my lesson last year not to be so picky after letting lots of young bucks walk by me in previous years. But I am still paying the price. Hey, it's still fun being out there, and that's what counts. | |

| This was my first year not getting a deer. Passed on a few thou. On the last sit 31st. I had big momma and her young come out had her at 10 yards but couldn't take her.. Sat it out and had a young buck not sure 8 or 10 ( still need to check cam) come in at 20 yards after legal shooting time. Was great to just watch them Tare the plot apart.
